Coimbatore : Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy inaugurated a 'round the clock' petrol bunk through video conferencing, at Gandhipuram here. The unique feature of this bunk is that it will be manned and managed by prisoners as part of a rehabilitation program for prisoners.
Various measures are being carried out by the prison administration to rehabilitate prisoners. 'Prison Bazaar' functions at the Central Prison grounds which is managed by prisoners. In a bid to expand the prison bazaar, arrangements were made to open petrol bunk sales centres at retail prices in the Central Prison.
The two-crore worth newly inaugurated petrol bunk is on Nanjappa Road, opposite to the Central Gandhipuram Bus Stand. Prison authorities say that another petrol bunk is to be opened shortly. Coimbatore Zone Prison Department Deputy Leader, Arivudai Thambi, Prison Superintendent, Krishnaraj and General Manager of Indian Oil Corporation, Suresh also participated in inaugurating the bunk.
